When Robyn and I started The Baby Pantry, we made a vow to celebrate every milestone.
We had coffee and cake at the airport when we came up with the name, The Baby Pantry (TBP). We had champagne and chips when our premise was outfitted, we went out to lunch when our signage went up, and we booked a flash dinner when we received our MPI registration.
Celebrating stuff makes you feel good, makes you thankful for what you have and makes life worth living.
But now we’re getting busier, it’s not that easy to make time to celebrate, so some of our smaller milestones have passed without acknowledgement. It struck me that bringing up a baby is a bit like that; you start off celebrating all the little bits, the birth, coming home, first smile, first big sleep, first tooth, first steps, first words, first birthday…………. And then somehow, life gets busier and busier and busier until suddenly the second birthday is here and then the 10th.
It’s always good to make an effort (and it does take huge effort) to stop, take stock and recalibrate your life - to focus on what’s important and letting go of those things that aren’t so much.
Today is my family and friends focus day; I’m going to phone my three children, make time to see friends and extended family AND I’m going to concentrate on The Baby Pantry - on playing my part in making it the healthiest food choice for babies on the planet!
I’m already looking for future milestones for The Baby Pantry so that we can do more celebrating and less wishing we’d celebrated.
Sometimes we lose sight of ourselves when our wee bundle of joy comes along.
Suddenly, there’s feeding, nappies to be changed, washing to hang out…. and bring in, there are groceries to pick up, meals to be prepared and in between, try to catch up with friends and get some sleep.
